My kids know about my abused childhood and have told me I should see a therapist. My insurance won't cover a Christian therapist (none in network). These days, there is not one secular therapist who would not consider divorcing me from my Christian faith "job number one" and think that was already half the battle.

The bifurcation of Americans--e.g., liberals vs. conservatives--is largely a product of the considerations you discussed initially in this interview; people are conditioned by their PREFERRED media into 'us vs. them/all-or-nothing' thinking and thus into political/cultural tribalism. I do think this bifurcation has a deliberate aim and purpose: the dividing of Americans along political self-identity lines and, via such division, the weakening of American national identity along Constitutional and historical lines. I also think an underlying cause of this entire process is that America is undergoing a full court press coup by people with a Marxist ideology and who have been at this process, including infiltration of our government, media, universities, Hollywood, etc. for many decades. The tactics they employ are textbook Marxist tactics and the weaponizaton of language--also known as 'Political Correctness'--is ubiquitous. The primary propaganda tactic feeding into all of this is accusing/blaming your political enemy for what you yourself are doing, which is classic Marxist manipulation. People do get hung up over mutliple/confilctiing definitions of words. For example--and this one was raised in the interview--the word "argument" has both a formal and an informal definition. The formal definition, which fewer people are aware of, is a logical reasoning structure of thinking consisting of premises that validly lead to a conclusion. The informal definition is a heated discussion (usually lacking in formal structure). The irony of confusing multiple definitions of the same word like this one is heightened when one definition is laudable and good (formal argumentation where logical reasoning/intellect are the essence) but the other definition is unproductive, bad, and even unblblical (hollering at each other where emotional outlet of frustration and vindictive application of personal insult are the essence). With formal argumentation the aim is persuade; with informal argumentation the aim is suppress and demean the other person. What a big difference multiple/conflicting DEFINITIONS can make! I'm listening to this video interview after its title caught my eye because over the past four years I've been engaging in social media professing Christians who are also flat Earth advocates. I've purposely been respectful--especially when I've not received respect in return--and I have emphasized logic/reasoning/evidence in my interactions with others. I specifically explain to others why I think the flat Earth intepretation fo scripture is wrong and I'm always honest about saying that my motivation for countering flat Earth is on account of the harm I think the view does--e.g., when Christians push it to science-savvy unbelievers as 'what the Bible teaches' and then the unbelievers predictably mock the Bible, God, and the gospel (if they even get so far as the gospel) from that point forward; and also when flat Earth becomes the paramount doctrinal preoccupation for someone to the point that it breaks up their marriage or occasions their leaving their (otherwise good/biblical/sound) church over it. (What a WEIRD DOCTRINAL FOOTNOTE in theology to become an issue some Chiristians will separate from others over!) Much of the overall bifurcation I intially commented upon here seems fueled and facilitated by the internet and social media. It's as though, by being funneled through the filtering medium of social media, conversation has become something of a VIDEO GAME, where the game is played by engaging other conversants as 'players' and the object is to get your emotional reward by telling them off and, by doing so, feeling triumphant. And I think this is largely where the 'Win the the debate at any cost' mentality comes from and gets cultivated--people want to 'play the video game' and 'win.' People are being reinforced with the inherent reward of a sense of satisfaction from telling others off online IN THE MANNER OF SOMEONE WHO'S PLAYING A VIDEO GAME--and an addictive video game, at that. Imagine that! The internet/social media-as-video-game to recondition people's minds and thinking along these lines functions to help achieve a disunited American society to destabilize the country for Marxist aims and ends. I honestly do think that's what's going on in our country at present.

The boundaries book was so hugely impactful for me. I went through an outwardly “normal” but secretly nightmarish childhood. After my oldest was born I completely fell apart, “boundaries” helped me begin to understand why I couldn’t function as a parent (or a person, really) and how to begin building my own boundaries, not just in how I expect others to treat me, but also in how I should be treating the people around me. And then in the New Testament, there are scriptures that talk about knowing why you believe. It doesn't say know what the other side says, or does it?
